“People Power Saves Man Down Under” was the prominent headline on the front page of today’s news paper, The Times of India, New Delhi Edition (Thursday, August 07, 2014, p.1). Under the headline was a photograph showing people pushing a train in Perth, Australia, to free a commuter whose leg was trapped between the carriage and the platform.
The story goes like this that the man while boarding the train at Sterling Railway Station in Perth, Australia, at 8.50 am local time on Wednesday slipped and one of his legs got stuck in the gap. Passengers first moved to the opposite side of the train hoping their weight would tilt the train and it would free the stuck leg but it didn’t work. Then, several people pushed the carriage together so that the man could be safely lifted out. For more details, click here to see the CCTV footage of the incident (Courtesy: www,buzzfeed.com).
The man was rescued with the people’s combined and timely efforts.
This incident acts as a reminder that we all have the power within…. to make a difference and together, we the people, can surmount any challenging situation….and, even move mountains, as the saying goes, leave aside the train …and, secondly, on a serious note, be mindful of your personal safety and do ‘mind the gap‘ …whilst undertaking any endeavor .
