“Auto driver’s daughter tops nat’l CA exam,” so read the headline on the cover page of The Times of India, New Delhi edition, Wednesday, January 23, 2013. The news item is about a 24-year old girl, Prema Jayakumar, who topped the nationwide chartered accountancy examination scoring 607 out of 800 marks (75.88%), a remarkable feat. Many other news papers and e-papers on the internet also carried the news of her success.
Prema hails from Malad, a suburb in Mumbai, India, where she lives with her parents and brother in a small one-roomed tenement in a chawl, a type of building. She has set an example for the youth of this nation that one can, despite tremendous hardships, succeed with grit, determination and hard-work. She says, “If you are focused in life, nothing is unachievable. I was determined to complete my CA in first attempt.” Prema has done her parents proud.
She truly proves the point that I made earlier in one of my blog posts entitled ‘Hard-work Leads to Excellence‘. Check always whether your actions will lead you to your goal and you too will make your parents proud, as did Prema.
She has been felicitated by many for her success, including the Governor of Maharashtra and the Chief Minister of Tamilnadu.
“If you are focused in life, nothing is unachievable, ” reiterating these words of Prema Jayakumar, I sign off this blogpost congratulating Prema on her achievement. Bravo Prema; Well done. We are proud of you.
